Reflection

To New Graduates…

Brian LeDuc - RWU Commencement 2010

Today I celebrate the three year anniversary of my undergraduate commencement, only days away from an anniversary of earning my Master’s degree, moving into my second apartment with my college girlfriend, starting my first job, and buying my first new car.  I say this not as a brag sheet, but a testament to the notion that there [...]

Reactions from LeaderShape

May 15, 2013

This passed weekend I served as a cluster facilitator for the LeaderShape Institute for the University of North Carolina-Pembroke, providing an opportunity to work with an amazing group of students and staff members from Pembroke and beyond.  Not only was this experience motivating as an educator invested in the vision and insight of the next [...]

Acknowledging Progress: Round II

The title of this post references a reflection from about this time last year, and ironically draws upon many of the same ideas from a new perspective.  Click to read “Acknowledging Progress.” The second year of graduate school feels different.  Even amongst all kinds of new challenges, opportunities, and perspective, something even more significant stands [...]

After an amazing Podcast with Laura Pasquini, Jeff Jackson, and Bruce Mann at BreakDrink.com, I wanted to share some of the resources that have helped me to both develop my presence online and inspire my voice and the use of social media to further develop my professional interests, serve as a personal learning network, and [...]

Preparing to be an #sagrad before you “become one”

July 12, 2011

I am often inspired by the conversations that take place within my Twitter stream, and this post bears no exception. I caught a question put out by Nathan Victoria asking “what should new #sagrad be doing now to prepare for first year?” in the context of the conversations taking place through the NUFPSLI. I should [...]

“We have to let ourselves be seen- really seen” – Brene Brown

Every time I see this talk by Brene Brown, I am immediately faced with the idea of a blog post I need to write.  The quotes below and throughout this post are the notes that led me there, and so they stay.  Not particularly neat or linear, but they resonated with me. Shame- “the fear [...]

8 Lessons I Learned in Little League

After doing some reflection on the fact that I’ve lost touch of the “roots” of the theme of my blog in the transition to brianfleduc.com (well, to be honest, a while before that), I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about why the analogy of Student Affairs to baseball seemed so obvious to me.  Growing [...]

Baldwin-Wallace College: Week Six

July 12, 2010
Thumbnail image for Baldwin-Wallace College: Week Six

A little late on posting this week, my usual post schedule altered by an Admissions event on Friday that essentially started the weekend ‘early,’ even though I didn’t actually leave the office until after 8 pm. First thought might be questioning work/life balance, but it’s hard to leave when you like the people you’re working with, especially when those ‘extra hours’ aren’t exactly spent working, but hanging out with students and ‘playing.’

Baldwin-Wallace College: Week Five

July 2, 2010

The calm after the storm. Orientation session 1 is complete, and I had a chance to process things and reflect on my experience. More importantly in the bigger picture, however, is that I was able to evaluate the data related to the Orientation program, look for trends, act as the voice of the students and [...]

GratiTUESday: Instant Replay

Despite all of my denial, apprehension, excitement, and disbelief, commencement has come and gone. And finishing with one of my strongest academic semesters ever, I can honestly say that I feel good. My time at RWU came to a close, and I didn’t spontaneously combust. Neither did “my” organization after the transition.

In fact, I really couldn’t be happier with how the end of the year treated me. Diploma in hand, I have since packed my car and moved to Ohio for the summer, with enough free time before the start of my position at Baldwin-Wallace College as a NODA intern to let the new scenery slowly become familiar. With a few days to myself, I have been more reflective than usual, going over the last months in pictures almost habitually, realizing how grateful I am to have such incredible people in my life.
