Students will become knowledgable student affairs practitioners through a core curriculum adapted from the standards and guidelines established by the 1998 Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS).

- The foundations of higher education and student affairs, including the historical, philosophical, psychological, cultural, sociological, and research, dimensions of the field
- Student development theory and related research relevant to student learning and personal development, provided through a multicultural perspective
- Student characteristics and effects of college on students
- Techniques and methods of assessing, designing, and implementing interventions with individuals, groups, and organizations
- Organization and administration of student affairs
- Appropriate assessment, evaluation, and research methodological for the field of student affairs
- The value of a multicultural perspective and the importance of diversity
- Developmental work with individual students; program planning, implementation and evaluation; staff training and supervision; and administrative functions and processes
